The ESLN department helps adult immigrants improve their English language abilities in order to pursue a variety of academic, vocational, and personal goals. Six Certificate of Competency programs are organized in a sequence of levels (from Beginning Literacy to Level 5) and provide integrated, immersive language instruction in all skill areas. Students can also select shorter, targeted skill courses designed to improve their performance in a particular area (listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, vocabulary, grammar, writing). Completion of a combination of these targeted skill classes can lead to additional certificates in Written Communication Skills and Oral Communication Skills. The ESLN Path to Citizenship program combines language instruction with lessons in U.S. culture, civics, history and government and helps eligible students prepare for the naturalization exam. We also offer a TOEFL preparation course. Students can select the type of class most appropriate for their success: in-person, online or hybrid (a combination of in-person and online).
