Overview of plant sciences and the biology of plants. The effects of environmental conditions, agricultural practices, and management techniques on plant propagation, growth, harvest, and use of plants; and the ethical and societal impacts of improving, sustainable agricultural practices. Identification, growth habits, culture and ornamental use of landscape and indoor plants adapted to climates of California. Plants emphasized will come from the current California Association of Nurseries and Garden Centers (CANGC) and Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) Certification Tests Plant Lists. Covers those plants best observed and studied in the spring of the year. Plant materials from southern California will also be included, with special emphasis on drought tolerant plants.
