Social Work and Human Services are rapidly growing and highly versatile fields, dedicated to improving the well-being of individuals, families, and communities. Professionals in these fields evaluate and address critical social issues such as poverty, inequitable access to healthcare, racial and social injustice, systemic discrimination, houselessness, incarceration, and the personal and family challenges that arise from these conditions. The Associate in Arts in Social Work and Human Services for Transfer (AA-T) degree at Pasadena City College introduces students to social welfare systems and service delivery practices. Students develop communication, case management, and critical thinking skills while exploring social and economic justice, diversity, and ethical decision-making. The program prepares students for transfer to a CSU to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Social Work or Human Services and for careers in many different settings (schools, homes, adult care centers, hospitals, corporations, government agencies, private practice, non-profits, prisons, within the legal system) and with people of many different ethnicities and ages.
