Designed to prepare students for careers and/or further education in child care, child development, and early childhood education. Students gain knowledge and resources in key theories of child development and the social-emotional, physical, language, and cognitive domains of development for children from birth through 6 years of age. A Child Care Provider Certificate of Completion is awarded upon completion of CHDN 1100, CHDN 1101, and CHDN 1102. Total of 27 hours lecture.

CHDN 1101  FUNDAMENTALS OF TEACHING YOUNG CHILDREN

Preparation for careers and/or further education in child care, child development, and early childhood education. Students gain knowledge and essential skills in teaching, guiding, and working with children from birth through 6 years of age. Students apply principles of child development to real-life situations, including dealing with challenging behaviors, communicating with young children, and implementing educational strategies. A Child Care Provider Certificate of Completion is awarded upon completion of CHDN 1100, CHDN 1101, and CHDN 1102. Total of 36 hours lecture.

CHDN 1102  WORKPLACE READINESS FOR CHILD CARE PROVIDERS

Development of a career pathway in child care, child development, and/or early childhood education. Content includes licensing and permitting requirements in California for preschool teachers, aides, family home child care providers, and other child care careers, along with resumes, job searches, and other workplace readiness skills. A Child Care Provider Certificate of Completion is awarded upon completion of CHDN 1100, CHDN 1101, and CHDN 1102. Total of 18 hours lecture.

CHDN 1103  TEACHING DUAL LANGUAGE LEARNERS, AGES 0-6

Preparation for careers and/or further education in child care, child development, and early childhood education. Students gain knowledge and essential skills in teaching, guiding, and working with newborn to 6-year-old children who are learning 2 or more languages. This course is a recommended elective in the Child Care Provider Certificate of Completion program. Total of 18 hours lecture.
