This program is designed for those students who desire to gain training and certification through the NWCG (National Wildland Coordinating Group) as a Wildland Firefighter. Students are trained in hand crew formation, fire line construction, and the use of wildland equipment. Students learn about wildland firefighter safety, fire behavior, protective clothing, and wildland fire tools. This academy program includes arduous physical conditioning and outdoor activity. This academy provides the required training to be hired as a seasonal Type 2 wildland firefighter for the U.S. Forest Service.

Requirements for selection and acceptance into the Wildland Fire Academy:

  3. attendance at an orientation meeting
An Occupational Skills Certificate is awarded upon completion of all required courses with a grade of C or better.

  • Recognize basic aircraft utilized during a wildland fire campaign.
  • Demonstrate the importance of physical fitness as a wildland firefighter.
  • Recognize the "Watch Out" situations that exist in any wildland fire.
