The Geographic Information Systems program educates students in the skills needed to gather, manage, model, interpret, analyze, and display spatial data. Students who complete this program are prepared to obtain entry level positions in careers using Geographic Information Systems, such as crime analysis, ecology, marketing, forestry, demographics, transportation, and government. The courses use a variety of mapping and data collection methods, and provide training in industry standards, cartographic techniques, and developing technologies. This skillset is important for anyone entering a job in the Geosciences field.
A Certificate of Achievement is awarded upon completion of all required courses with a grade of C or better.
- Ability to conduct geospatial data entry, digitization and conversion, and geospatial data building, modeling, or analysis.
- Perform analysis of geospatial data to identify spatial relationships or display results of analyses, using maps, graphs, or tabular data.
- Effectively communicate through the design or preparation of graphic representations of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- Build and manage existing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) databases.
