The Associate in Science in Early Childhood Education for Transfer Degree introduces students to the study of child development, which includes the understanding of physical, social, emotional and cognitive growth and development of the child from conception through age eight. Aside from being well prepared to continue their studies at a California State University in Child Development or Early Childhood Studies, students who complete the Associate in Science in Early Childhood Education for Transfer Degree can pursue a wide variety of careers including infant/toddler care, preschool teaching (including Head Start), transitional kindergarten through third grade teaching, elementary and secondary education, early childhood special education, program administration, school counseling, child psychology, child advocacy, social work, and community and social services. The Child Development Program at Pasadena City College also offers specialized Child Development Certificates of Achievement that can prepare students to apply for Child Development Permits from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Associate Degree for Transfer Requirements
- 60 semester or 90 quarter CSU-transferable units.
- Completion of the California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC); or students with rights to former general education patterns can complete California State University-General Education-Breadth pattern (CSU GE-Breadth) or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC-CSU) pattern.
- A minimum of 18 semester or 27 quarter units in the major or area of emphasis as determined by the community college district.
- Obtainment of a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0.
- All courses in the major must be completed with a grade of “C” or better, or P if the course is graded on a P/NP basis.
PLEASE NOTE: The courses that universities and colleges require for transfer vary. When selecting courses for transfer purposes, students should consult with an Academic Counselor to determine the particular transfer requirements of specific institutions.

- Evaluate the effectiveness of classroom teaching strategies to improve teaching practices for all children, including the application of a variety of effective approaches, strategies, and techniques supporting positive relationships.
