The ESLN Level 1 Certificate of Competency program provides integrated instruction in listening, speaking, reading and writing English language skills at a low beginning level. The emphasis is on key grammar and vocabulary to enable low beginning language learners to communicate effectively in the classroom, community and workplace.

A Certificate of Competency is awarded upon completion of all required courses.

Program Outcomes

• Evaluate and summarize the narration of low beginning level audio materials.
• Communicate orally about topics relating to the classroom, daily life, and the workplace at a low beginning level of proficiency.
• Utilize appropriate comprehension strategies to understand and describe simple reading passages containing low beginning level vocabulary.
• Write simple sentences and other texts integrating low beginning level grammar, vocabulary, mechanics and sentence structures.
