1305.10The Associate in Arts in Child and Adolescent Development for Transfer Degree provides courses that enable students to complete lower division prerequisites and general education requirements for transfer to the California State University (CSU) within a related major and the completion of a baccalaureate degree, with guaranteed admission to a CSU to a similar major with junior standing, and the ability to complete their remaining requirements within 60 semester or 90 quarter units.
The program is designed to prepare students with a strong academic foundation necessary for pursuing studies at the California State Universities (CSUs) in majors that may include Child Development, Child and Adolescent Development, Psychology (some CSUs), Early Childhood Studies, Human Development, Elementary Subject Matter Teacher Preparation (some CSUs), Special Education Teacher Preparation (some CSUs), Adolescent Development, Family Studies, Family and Consumer Sciences and Humanities. Student’s completing this interdisciplinary degree learn the process of change and growth that characterize Human Development from conception to adolescence, preparing them to pursue employment in Early Childhood Education, Human Services, Health and Education fields; including, but not limited to: Child and Adolescent care and education, special education, child and adolescent health and a variety of youth related social service careers.
Associate Degree for Transfer Requirements
- 60 semester or 90 quarter CSU-transferable units.
- Completion of the California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC); or students with rights to former general education patterns can complete California State University-General Education-Breadth pattern (CSU GE-Breadth) or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC-CSU) pattern.
- A minimum of 18 semester or 27 quarter units in the major or area of emphasis as determined by the community college district.
- Obtainment of a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0.
- All courses in the major must be completed with a grade of “C” or better, or P if the course is graded on a P/NP basis.

Program Outcomes
- Demonstrate knowledge of the theories, concepts, developmental processes and empirical approaches in the scientific study of child and adolescent development from diverse perspectives across the domains of physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development.
- Demonstrate knowledge of evidence-based strategies of competent pedagogy relevant to a culturally pluralistic and linguistically diverse society.
- Examine biological, psychological and environmental influences on child and adolescent development and the impact of these effects on formulating educational policy and designing curriculum practices.
